Tools and Projects

Raborn Decision Sciences has been involved in the creation of multiple free and open source products for performing high-quality, replicable analyses.

ShortForm

ShortForm is an R package for automated short form development, combining psychometric methods, machine learning, and reproducible statistical workflows.

It uses proven, peer-reviewed metaheuristic algorithms to shorten assessents, scales, and other measurement tools while preserving psychometric and statistical qualities. The package documentation is available for everyone to read. The source code is also publically available on GitHub.

Raborn Decision Sciences has also developed a Shiny app to demonstrate the ShortForm package with simulated data.

Direct Care Break-Even App

An interactive Shiny planning tool for modeling revenue, capacity, pricing, and break-even scenarios in direct care or service-based medical practices.

Psychometric Quarto Reporting App

An interactive Shiny app that produces a branded technical report in .docx, .html, and .pdf formats.

Programmatic Tools

Some of the tools used to create these products were:

  • R, an open source statistical programming language.
  • Shiny, an open source software for creating web applications.
  • Quarto, an open source scientific and technical publishing system.
  • LaTeX, an open source document preparation system.
  • Git, an open source distributed version control system.
  • Fedora Linux, an open source operating system using the Linux kernel.
  • Positron and RStudio, integrated development environments for R and other languages.

This website itself is built on a combination of Quarto, Git, and Positron. Its code lives in a GitHub repository and is published via Quarto within a continuous integration/continuous deployment process.
